Tasting Notes:
Made from 60 to 100 year old ungrafted Tinta de Toro vines, the 2003 Cenit boasts explosively rich, smoky aromas of cherry, cassis, cola, espresso and licorice. Deep and silky, with excellent concentration, sweetness and purity to the dark fruit flavors. The finish is an endless display of sweet, lush black currant and blackberry fruit, with fine, dusty tannins adding focus.

Vinas Del Cenit, 'Cenit'
Clio Fans, You Will Love This Spanish Newcomer
— LIMITED QUANTITIES—
($49.00 per bottle / $499.80 per case) The wines from Spain are fast becoming recognized as world class. Rioja, Ribera del Duero, Priorat and recently Jumilia (with the ascension of Clio) are fast becoming as recognizable today by wine aficionados as Bordeaux and Napa. One up and coming Spanish region still flying under the radar is Zamora.
Zamora is located in Northern Spain just west of Rioja, just outside Toro. One standout from that region is the 2003 Cenit. We came across the Cenit in our constant pursuit of finding new, quality wines from around the world.
One of the first things we noticed about this wine was that it had tremendous depth that revealed so much about its unique terrior - a harsh climate and poor sandy soil. These natural stresses are great conditions for wine as they tend to produce higher quality grapes though the yields are typically lower. The byproduct is a deep garnet colored red with intense aromas. On the palate the wine reveals unctuous fruit flavors of plums, black raspberries and red currants followed by nuances of licorice, sweet spices and roasts. Receiving 91 points, 91 points and 90 points from The Wine Spectator, Stephen Tanzer and Robert Parker, respectively.
