CELLAR CAN BLAU
Mas de Can Blau
Montsant, Spain
(Only 375 Produced, A Mere 150 Cases Imported)
Varietals:
Old Vine Grenache 30%, Old Vine Carignan (Mazuelo) 35% and 35% Syrah
Tasting Notes:
This is Spain's next Clio. Explosive nose of exotic scents of blackberry, cassis, cola, sandalwood and smoked meats. Broad deep and remarkably sweet with lush dark fruit flavors showing remarkable depth and purity along with scorched earth and tar. A fantastic balance of lush fruit, oak and vanilla creme - but balanced! Intense mineral accents and firm tannins add structure and precision. Pair with rich chicken dishes, grilled meats of any kind and creamy to semi-hard cheeses. Allow 15-30 minutes of decanting. Enjoy now and over the next 10 years.

Mas de Can Blau
The Clio Team Has Produced Another Spanish Hit!
— LIMITED AVAILABILITY —
($39.95 per bottle / $479.40 per case) For Spanish wine fans and for those who appreciate lush wines, we are pleased to highlight the 2005 Mas de Can Blau which is Spain's next Clio!
Amazingly, this is only the second vintage of this up-and-comer (like Clio was when we featured it two years ago) with 375 cases made and a mere 150 cases imported into the United States. Not to mention, Mas de Can Blau is made by the same consortium that owns Clio and Alto Moncayo and utilizes the same wine making techniques.
The first vintage of Mas de Can Blau, the 2004 vintage, received 92 points from both Stephen Tanzer and The Wine Advocate and we expect the current vintage to rate as good or better. Like Clio and Alto Moncayo, the wine effectively integrates fat fruit and lush vanilla creme in a balanced manner. Add to that broad, deep and remarkably sweet dark fruit with hints of scorched earth and tar with a somewhat meaty quality. Intense mineral accents and firm tannins add structure and precision, a byproduct of the 65-80 year old Grenache and Carignan vines planted in the sandy, slate hills of Montsant.
Mas de Can Blau is not to be missed! Pair with rich chicken dishes, grilled meats of any kind and creamy to semi-hard cheeses. Allow 15-30 minutes to decant if you have the opportunity. Enjoy now and over the next 10 years if you can wait that long. Order Here.
