NEYERS VINEYARD

Byrd-Cooper

Napa Valley, CA

Varietals:

100% Merlot

Tasting Notes:

Merlot is alive and well and this special wine defies the myth that Merlot is Cabernet Sauvignon on training wheels. The aromas from this Merlot consist of blackberry, cedar, and black cherry. Classic Merlot flavors of dark ripe plum are enhanced by velvety traces of tar and molasses. Wonderful flavors of cocoa and milk chocolate linger on the finish. Enjoy this versatile wine on its own, with cheese or with lightly braised roasts and even oily fish such as salmon.

Merlot? You Better Believe It!

— LIMITED AVAILABILITY

($21.25 per bottle / $255.00 per case) Good Merlot is delicious! While Pinot Noir has become the varietal du jour, there is a world of quality Merlot being produced that is excellent and should not be overlooked. From Bordeaux to California, good Merlot constantly defies the myth that it is Cabernet Sauvignon on training wheels.
One Merlot we can't get enough of is the 2005 Byrd-Cooper by Neyers Vineyard. This is a serious Merlot that is deep garnet in color and has great weight. The wine smells like a Pomerol but has silky tannins and a beautiful finish that is the hallmark of Napa Valley. The aromas consist of blackberry, cedar, and black cherry all of which fill the glass. The palate reveals a kaleidoscope of dark fruit flavors with a touch of tar, molasses and distinct ripe plum and cocoa. These flavors are supported by a burst of sour cherry and an inviting milk chocolate finish that lingers.
We understand trends, but one trend we always support is quality. With this wine you get an artisanal wine that drinks well beyond its price. Versatile enough to stand on its own, you can pair this wine with cheese or with lightly braised roasts and even oily fish such as salmon. Enjoy! Order Here.
