Domaine La Bouissiere, Gigondas
A Rich Rhone Blend To Warm The Cold Winter Nights
— LIMITED QUANTITIES—
($27.50 per bottle / $280.50 per case) Winter has finally descended upon the Northeast bringing bone chilling winds by day and relentless cold nights. That means one thing, a return to my favorite comfort food and wine. As for the wine, I knew what I wanted as soon as I heard my wife was making her delicious beef stew, a recipe handed down from generation to generation. It is a hearty, rich dish that I could not think of pairing with anything other than one of my favorite Rhone reds, the 2004 Domaine La Bouissiere from Gigondas.
At a fraction of the price of a Chateauneuf-du-Pape, I am always intrigued by this wine's Chateauneuf-like character and flavorful layers that are opulent yet polished. Receiving 91-93 pts from Stephen Tanzer, this delicious red is smoky and lush on the nose, with aromas of sweet red berries and cherry complemented by rose and roasted coffee. On the palate, this wine boasts red berry fruit flavors with a finish that is floral, juicy and long - a byproduct of the Mediterranean weather and red clay soils of Gigondas. What separates La Bouissiere from other wines in its class is its location high on the slopes of the Dentelles de Montmirail where the intense southern sun is offset by altitude and wind which cools the nights to produce a wine of immense concentration and depth.
Not only does this wine drink beautifully with my wife's stew, but it matches well with strong cheeses, lamb dishes, and almost any comfort food. Order Here
