Carpineto, 'Farnito'
A Cabernet Sauvignon From The Hills Of Tuscany
— LIMITED QUANTITIES —
($29.85 per bottle / $304.47 per case) I'm not a gourmet cook, but occasionally I grab my pizza stone and whip together a brick oven masterpiece with fresh mozzarella and homemade tomato sauce accented by a touch of pesto. For this classic, I am often torn between drinking a California Cabernet and Chianti Classico.
A delicious Italian red that threads this needle is the 2000 Carpineto, Farnito which is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. This Super Tuscan (a Tuscan red that falls outside the traditional blending laws) displays the ripe rich fruit of a California Cabernet as well as the subtle earthy nuances of a Chianti, but without its overpowering acidity.
What is truly special about this Italian gem - besides its price - is how well it compliments food. It doesn't overwhelm with overly extracted fruit or numb your palate with excess alcohol. Distinct aromas of mushroom and earth carry through to the palate where they are supported by subtle red berry flavors, hints of spice, vanilla and licorice. This is a full bodied wine that is silky smooth and finishes with elegant tannins.
Enjoy not only with brick oven pizza, but with meatballs and spaghetti, lasagna, steak and cheese. Order Here
