The Colonial Estate

Evangéliste

Adelaide Hills, Australia

Varietals:
100% Chardonnay

- 250 Cases Imported -

Tasting Notes:

Zesty, lush and packed with citrus notes, this Australian Chardonnay displays subtle toasty oak on the nose. The palate shows stone fruits. It's medium bodied, complex, but very refreshing. The oak is beautifully integrated and gives a lovely richness without being overpowering. The high elevation and cool climate of the Adelaide Hills gives the wine a certain Burgundian edginess. On the palate, the wine is intense, yet beautifully balanced. An array of fruit characters (peach, pear, melon) mingle with the mineral and earthy notes. Enjoy now and over the next few years.

The Colonial Estate
One Out Of Many Makes The Cut

— LIMITED QUANTITIES —

($37.85 per bottle / $454.20 per case) As many of you may know, we are in the final stages of completing our wine bar, Grand Cru. Needless to say, these are very exciting times and we have increased our efforts to find new and interesting wines for both venues. Yesterday, we re-tasted the New World whites and were overwhelmed by the 2004 Colonial Estate Evangéliste, a delicious Reserve Chardonnay from Adelaide Hills, Australia that will without a doubt be a staple at both our retail store and wine bar.
Why was this wine such a standout? Well, despite Australia's warm weather, we found the wine to have atypical characteristics of New World Chardonnay: full bodied, but not too rich; oaky, but subtle and well integrated; acidic, but balanced and lasting. In fact, the wine has lovely fresh citrus aromas with stone fruits, peach, pear and melon that mingle with mineral and earth notes on the palate.
The brightness of this wine is a byproduct of Adelaide Hills which is a relatively high elevation and cool climate that gives the wine a certain Burgundian edginess. It is a complete wine that will improve with a few years age, but don't hold back. Pair with cheese, chicken, fish, and grilled shrimp. You might even see a few of these pairings at the wine bar. By the way, let the wine sit and open for about 30 minutes - it will open up nicely. Enjoy! Order Here.
