Nicolas Potel
Puligny-Montrachet
Vieilles Vignes
Burgundy, France
Varietals:
100% Chardonnay
[Only 75 cases imported]
[91 pts Burghound]
Tasting Notes:
2004 white Burgundies are regarded as some of the finest in a decade. Potel's 2004 Puligny-Montrachet is a rare release for the United States and a wine we just had to have! The wine displays a floral elegance backed by a classic steely concentration. Aromas of citrus and nectarine fruit are at its core along with fine minerality and poached pear with just an edge of toasted almond. The wine has outstanding acidity and a mid-palate that is elegant. This wine will thrill you now and reward those who choose to hold bottles over the next 10 + years. Pair with lobster, shrimp, fish, or chicken. Enjoy!

Nicolas Potel
We've Struck Gold In Puligny-Montrachet!
— RARE and LIMITED —
($54.00 per bottle / $550.80 per case) We unearthed a treasure last week at a tasting at the Tribeca Rooftop in Manhattan. We were shocked to see a bottle of a rare and elusive Nicolas Potel 2004 Puligny-Montrachet "Vieilles Vignes" (old vines Chardonnay). Not prominently displayed and not available to the masses, we were fortunate to sample this wine and asked if it was available or simply a "library" wine being shown for fun. When told there was only a handful of cases available, we said "we'll take them all!"
Nicolas Potel is one of the rock stars of his generation in Burgundy. For years, we have been fans of his reds. And like a lost masterpiece from Monet, his whites are rarely seen and often never make it outside of Europe. Not to mention, it's unheard of to see any 2004 white Burgundies of this caliber still around.
Wedged between Meursault and Chassagne-Montrachet, Puligny-Montrachet is the smallest of the three villages and produces wines that are more striking than any in the Côte d'Or and arguably the finest in the world. This particular Puligny displays a floral elegance backed by a stylish, steely concentration yet has a bright, vibrant core and has wonderful length. It has aromas of citrus and nectarine fruit with fine minerality and the slightest edge of toasted almond oil. A hint of poached pear is understated at entry, and the palate is opulent but has outstanding acidity and a mid-palate finesse that is effortless and classy.
Only 75 cases of Potel's Vieilles Vignes Puligy-Montrachet were imported into the United States. It is a rich, powerful wine that will thrill you now and reward those who choose to hold bottles over the next 10+ years. Pair with lobster, shrimp, fish, or chicken. Enjoy! Order Here.
