Schloss Gobelsburg
Steinsetz
Kamptal Kremstal, Austria
Varietals:
100% Grüner Veltliner
Tasting Notes:
A beautiful dry white wine revealing young citrus and peach flavors which are offset by refreshing notes of salt and pepper spice. Bright acidity and wet stone flintiness lead way to a velvety texture that intensifies as the wine opens up. Great when drunk young, this wine can easily be set down for 10 years allowing it to become rich and weighty with little signs of aging.

Schloss Gobelsburg, Steinsetz
"What did we drink before we knew about this stuff?"
— LIMITED QUANTITIES —
[$22.75 per bottle/$232.05 per case] There is simply no other varietal that is more food friendly than a good Grüner Veltliner, Austria's most popular varietal. Among the many wonderful attributes of Grüner Veltliner is its ability to pair well with foods you never thought you'd find a wine for. For example, avocado, artichokes, asparagus and every manner of obstreperous veggie, Grüner Veltliner loves them. Need a white wine for a wild mushroom saute? Step right up. Want a wine for a peppery salad with lots of mizuna and arugula, here you go. Not to mention, the wine is a perfect compliment to any Asian or seafood cuisine. Frankly, once you drink Grüner Veltliner, if you haven't already, you'll be grabbing for it so often you'll ask your drinking companions "What did we drink before we knew about this stuff?"
Schloss Gobelsburg is one of our favorite Grüner Veltliners year after year for its consistency and value. It is the oldest winery in the Danube dating back to 1711 and is the country's most exciting winery winning Winery Of The Year honors in 2006. 'Steinsetz' bottling is a classic example showing pure salt and pepper on the palate with young citrus notes, peach kernel and wet stone. The wine is clean and bright with fresh minerality on the palate. It is smooth with a long lingering finish and great acidity. Terrific when drunk young, it is extremely age worthy. You can easily set it down for ten years allowing it to become rich and weighty with little signs of aging. Enjoy! Order Here
