CHATEAU CLARKE

Baron Edmond de
Rothschild

Bordeaux, France

Varietals:
Bordeaux Blend

Tasting Notes:

Robert Parker called this fantastic Bordeaux a "sleeper" of the vintage calling it "the finest Clarke I have ever tasted." It is a great value displaying classic Bordeaux flavors. Aromas of black currants, minerals, smoke, and damp earth emerge from this dark ruby/purple-tinged, medium-bodied, pure effort. Drink it over the next decade. Enjoy with your favorite meat dishes, roasts and cheeses.

Chateau Clarke, Rothschild
A Sleeper Bordeaux In A Fantastic Vintage

— LIMITED QUANTITIES

[$26.75 per bottle / $321.00 per case] We recently attended a wine dinner which featured several Bordeaux including the 2003 Chateau Lafite Rothschild. A delicious wine, but at over $800 per bottle it is fast becoming a special occasion wine and most aficionados don't drink it as their everyday Bordeaux. In recent years, Bordeaux wines have become exorbitantly priced given the huge press of the 2000, 2003 and 2005 vintages. Not to mention the weak dollar has added to the price increases leaving most wondering if they can find a good Bordeaux for under $30. The answer is yes!
One Bordeaux standout that we enjoy drinking on a regular basis is the 2003 Chateau Clarke. Chateau Clarke is owned by Baron Edmond de Rothschild of Chateau Lafite Rothschild; it is located in the Listrac region of the Medoc, and it is there - like the rest of Europe - that vineyards were subjected to a very hot 2003 summer producing rich grapes with excellent concentration and wines that are approachable in their youth, but still age worthy.
Robert Parker called the 2003 Chateau Clarke a "sleeper of the vintage" calling it the "finest Clarke I have ever tasted." A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (30%) and Merlot (70%), the wine displays aromas of black currants, cherry and plum with hints of mocha, chocolate, smoke, and damp earth which emerge from this dark ruby/purple-tinged everyday drinker. Ripe chewy tannins are complimented by a long fleshy finish. Drink it over the next decade. It is truly a special value displaying classic Bordeaux flavors and aromas. Enjoy! Order Here.
