Antinori Cervaro della Sala
Welcome Autumn With This Exquisite Italian Chard

— LIMITED AVAILABILITY —

($42.85 per bottle / $514.20 per case) Our August 8th Merchant's Pick featured Terre di Tufi, a crisp, bright Italian Vernachia/Chardonnay blend that paired terrifically with the hot August weather. Due to the overwhelming response to that wine, we are following up with another special Italian white, one that is more autumnal in character. Luckily, we were able to secure a sizable allocation of this hard-to-get, limited production 2005 Antinori Cervaro.
This Chardonnay gem blends Chardonnay (85%) and Grechetto (15%); the fruit is sourced from the famous Castello della Sala estate, which is known for its rich sedimentary soils with marine fossils and clay.
I often reference Cervaro as a junior Gaja Chardonnay (Gaia & Rei), but at a fraction of the price. I've been enjoying Cervaro year after year, but the 2005 is particularly outstanding. This vintage exudes lovely apple and young pear, with subtle vanilla and oak. Aromas of white flower fill the glass of this medium to full bodied Chardonnay and a hint of apple pie character dances on the palate with lasting acidity and harmonious citrus fruit.
While the 2005 vintage of Cervaro has not yet been rated, it consistently receives Tree Bichieri awards from Gambero Rosso, Italy's leading wine magazine, and has consistently received 90 - 92 points from Wine Spectator over the last three years. Pair this delicious Italian white with your favorite pastas, fish and chicken dishes. Enjoy! Order Here.
