Silky dry tannins and a long elegant finish are accompanied by a beautiful sweet bouquet of red and black fruit, earth, and subtle tobacco. Lacy, rich, and light on its feet, it is ideal for drinking over the next 7-8 years.

Tenuta Delle Terre Nere, 'Guardiola'
Pinot-Like Wine Grown In The Highest Elevation In Sicily
-LIMITED QUANTITIES-
($35.00 per bottle / $357.00 per case) One of the most interesting aspects of the wine business is discovering hidden treasures. We recently tasted and fell in love with the wines of Tenuta delle Terre Nere and in particular the Etna Rosso 'Guardiola.' We couldn’t believe the unique qualities packed into this Sicilian red that were definitely Burgundian in style with a truffle-like earthiness found in Italian Barolos.
Nestled into the slopes of Mount Etna in Sicily, the Guardiola vineyard is composed largely of vines so old many are pre-phylloxera. This is not your typical Sicilian jammy red wine - quite the opposite.
The vineyard of 'Guardiola' is one of the highest-altitude vineyards not only in Sicily, but in all of Europe! Extreme temperature swings from day to night along with the altitude, produce a wine of "unbelievable freshness and complexity as well as huge perfumes that suggested Pinot Noir....astonishingly complex and ethereal efforts from the hillsides of Mt. Etna in Sicily." [91 + pts Robert Parker, Jr.]
Made from 100% Nerello Mascalese, a native Sicilian grape, the 2004 'Guardiola' is an absolute treasure. The wine displays impeccably fresh and rich fruit reminiscent of red and black cherries followed by earth, subtle tobacco and silky dry tannins making this wine a perfect compliment to veal bolognese, crispy roasted duck, leg of lamb, and wild boar.
