Huerta de Albala
Taberner
Cadiz, Spain
92 pts Robert Parker
Varietals:
100% Syrah
Tasting Notes:
The 2005 Taberner exhibits an exceptional perfume of smokey bacon, marinated meats, dark fruit and hints of blueberry pie. Full-bodied, with layers of spicy, fleshy fruit, this intensely flavored wine with super sweat tannins and lovely acidity has the structure to evolve for several years and should drink well through 2020. Enjoy with any Fall dishes, stews, lamb and grilled meats of any kind.

Huerta de Albala, Taberner
A Spanish Stunner That Rivals Clio, Numanthia and Torre Muga
— LIMITED AVAILABILITY —
[$35.85 per bottle / $430.20 per case] The beginning, middle and end of our wine selecting process comes down to answering a very basic question: How does the wine drink? We are not concerned about marketing muscle, past vintage glories, and certainly not a cute name or logo. Instead, we look for wines of character, depth, and a real sense of terroir.
When we first tasted the 2005 Huerta de Albala Taberner (this is the first commercial release of this wine in the American market) we all looked at each other and knew that this wine is and will be a hit in the years to come. It answered our fundamental question with a resounding and definitive 'Georgeous' Like the Bodegas El Nido Clio three years ago, we fell in love with that first vintage and believe Huerta de Albala is heading for a similar path of fame. Huerta de Albala is made of 100% Syrah, which is perfectly suited for the warm weather of Southern Spain (Cadiz) in which the Syrah grape thrives just as it does in Rhone. The vines are planted on pure sandy soils and produces a wine with hints of violets, smokey bacon, marinated meats, black olives and crème de cassis. Subtle hints of blueberry and dark berry fruit lead way to flavors of super sweet chewy tannins and lovely acidity. It has power and yet, it is very supple and long on the finish.
The Spanish wine industry is in the middle of a renaissance that does not seem to be abating. This is a great valued Fall wine! Enjoy with grilled meats and hearty stews now and over the next 10-15 years. Enjoy! Order Here.
