ROVENTE

Morellino di Scansano

Tuscany, Italy

90 pts Wine Spectator

(Only 150 cases imported)

Varietals:

85% Sangiovese, 15% blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah.

Tasting Notes:

Wine Spectator gave the 2004 Col di Bacche Rovente the highest rating for its 2006 review of Morellinos. Aromas of dark berry and subtle earth fill the glass. The palate is filled with loads of ripe dark fruit, toasty oak and coffee. A classic Italian profile of chewy but silky, sweet tannins on the long lasting finish. A real treasure and great everyday drinker. Enjoy now and over the next five years with pasta, tomato based sauces, grilled meats and cheese. Enjoy.

Col di Bacche Rovente
The Highest Rated Morellino By Wine Spectator In 2006

— LIMITED AVAILABILITY —

($28.75 per bottle / $345.00 per case) We attended a private dinner a week ago with the Import Director of a major wine importation company for the sole purpose of being shown a "special wine." The wine was covered before we arrived and upon tasting it, the following dialogue ensued: "Excellent! Absolutely delicious! Smells great! It's a vintage Bordeaux, right?" With a smirk our host said "Smells like it doesn't it? But guess again." After ten minutes he revealed the wine's origin, price and varietals. To our disbelief, the wine was neither vintage Bordeaux nor a classic California Cabernet, despite the aromas. We were amazed to learn that the wine was the 2004 Col di Bacche Rovente from Tuscany.
Rovente is a Riserva Morellino consisting of 85% Sangiovese and the balance a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah. Dark fruit and subtle aromas of earth fill the glass. On the palate, loads of ripe dark berry fruit are beautifully integrated with hints of toasty oak and coffee. The Sangiovese profile of this wine is rich and full bodied almost Brunello in style; the Cabernet Sauvignon adds just the right amount of structure; the Merlot adds a velvety mouth feel and the Syrah adds a hint of spice. Not to mention, classic Italian chewy yet silky tannins are present but not overpowering. This is a great everyday drinker rich enough to stand up to almost any food and smooth enough to enjoy on its own. A real treasure!
Col di Bacche Rovente was the highest rated wine in the 2006 Wine Spectator review of Morellinos. Pair with pasta of any kind, tomato sauce based dishes, grilled meats and cheese. Drink now and over the next five years. Enjoy! Order Here.
