THE REVIEW

Rhone lovers rejoice because 2007 is the "vintage of my lifetime...and I don't say that lightly." (Robert Parker)
Rhone reds from the highly acclaimed 2007 vintage are a rare and wonderful combination of savory fruit allowing for both early drinking and aging. Like a rising tide lifting all boats, you can enjoy Chateauneuf-du-Pape quality without the price tag. From this stellar vintage is a great value Rhone red, the 2007 Domaine Montirius Vacqueyras Le Clos.
Vacqueyras is an appellation within the Rhone. There, the intense southern sun is ameliorated by altitude and wind. This mountainous terroir with demanding soils of limestone and clay yields wines with great concentration, freshness and amazing depth.
This single vineyard Rhone red is truly Chateauneuf-du-Pape quality. Saturated deep red in color, this Rhone masterpiece is smoky and lush on the nose, with aromas of sweet red berries and cherry complemented by rose, garrigue and roasted coffee. On the palate, the wine boasts excellent energy and precise red berry fruit flavors with hints of spice that linger enjoyably.
Delightfully drinkable now, the strength of the vintage and the balanced tannins will allow this delicious red to age majestically for years to come. Pair with lamb, steak, roasted chicken, a meaty pasta dish and cheese. Enjoy!Read More »
