2012 Macan Clasico, Rioja

This is the most enthralling Spanish wine we've tasted in a very long time! Macan Clasico is a joint venture between two powerhouses in the wine world: Lafite and Vega Sicilia. Together, they have created an extremely limited and highly expressive Tempranillo that should not be missed.
    Chateau Lafite may very well be the most recognizable name in wine. Not only does it represent the essence of Bordeaux it is the standard for the region. Similarly, Vega Sicilia is the Lafite of Spain. With their terroir driven philosophy and dedication to legendary land from which their fruit is sourced, Vega is sought after by collectors from around the world. Together, their collective wine knowledge has made an amazing Rioja in 2012.
    Earthy, herbal black-fruit aromas. Textured, luscious and full-bodied, its tannins wrap the fruit core with a structure that can only be found in Bordeaux. Roasted flavors of coffee and earth, the blackberry fruit stays on the palate for minutes. Hickory and baked plum finish with heavy notes of dark chocolate, a dash of molasses and a mineral driven finish. Tremendous!
