THE REVIEW

Want to experience the glory of the highly anticipated 2012 Brunellos two years before their release? "Baby Brunellos" are ideal for just that! And what better Baby than one of Italy's finest Brunello producers, Valdicava!
Rosso di Montalcinos are often referred to as a "Baby Brunello" because the wines are made from the same delicious Sangiovese Grosso (Brunello) grapes, however, they see less time in oak before release. Rossos are "pure Montalcino without the wait." New York Times
Rossos are what the "locals" enjoy while they are waiting for their Brunellos to mature. We love Rosso di Montalcinos - especially good ones - because they provide a snapshot of everything we love about Brunellos: they are silky, textured, earthy and pair with just about everything you want to eat.
If you got this far in our feature, here is a little Brunello bonus - a limited amount of the prized 2010 Valdicava Brunello (99 pts) is still available in limited quantities.
Like their coveted Brunello, Valdicava's Rosso di Montalcino boasts crushed flowers, red cherries, spice, leather and tobacco. A wonderful range of flavors and perfectly balanced acidity make this red exceptional for food pairing. Pasta, red sauce, hard cheese, and grilled meats are just a few of the many foods that will marry with this delicious wine. Enjoy!Read More »
