THE REVIEW

Ethereal is not a word we often use to describe a Sauvignon Blanc, but we couldn't resist on this deliciously elegant Sancerre by Alphonse Mellot.
A commitment to low yields and hand harvesting is what separates Mellot's fruit from the pack. Limestone soil laden with chalk fill the Mellot vineyards adding persistence, depth, and minerality. These elements form the backbone of a wine that seems to float along the palate and keeps us refreshed and asking for more.
Lively, supple lemon-lime accents are followed by a touch of young honeydew melon and white pepper. Citrus fruit and soft spices appear on the second wave. Flinty, limestone minerality frames this wonderful white with a finish that seems endless.
Here are just a few delicacies that pair with La Moussierre: tuna tartare, mussels "à la Charentaise", chanterelle mushroom omelettes, baked Norway lobsters, raw oysters, trout meunière, braised ham with white sauce, Chavignol goat's milk cheeses, and puff pastries. Enjoy!Read More »
