2013 Dominus Estate, Proprietary Red, Napa Valley

Press and Tasting Notes

[100 pts Robert Parker] "The 2013 Dominus is, to my way of thinking, one of the most profound wines Christian Moueix has yet made in his rather brilliant winemaking history, both in France and in Napa Valley. This wine, with very low yields of only 3,500 cases and a final blend of 89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Petit Verdot and 4% Cabernet Fr ... Read More »

THE REVIEW

Now that's a first. I can't recall ever seeing a triple 100 point score for one wine in one vintage. This is a trophy - and an extremely limited one at that!
    Referring to the elite Cabernets of the 2013 California vintage, James Suckling commented, "Their terrific quality reminded me of such classic bottles as the legendary 1982 Mouton-Rothschild or even 1961 Latour."
    The strong Bordeaux influence in this bottle makes sense since Dominus Estate was founded in 1981 by Christian Moueix, the then owner of Château Pétrus in Pomerol. Ever since then, this California winery has been known for capturing the essence of premier Bordeaux.

    *** "The 2013 Dominus is, to my way of thinking, one of the most profound wines Christian Moueix has yet made in his rather brilliant winemaking history, both in France and in Napa Valley." {100 points, Robert Parker}

    *** "Even better in bottle than it was in barrel, the 2013 is utterly magnificent. This is a remarkably vivid, nuanced wine..." {100 points, Antonio Galloni}

    *** "The aromas to this are multidimensional and fascinating with black truffles, bark, cloves, black currants and citrus - even ginseng....It's an experience to taste this.." {100 points, James Suckling}

    Over the past decade, Dominus has flirted with perfect scores on many occasions. It is only fitting that it would yield such perfection on its commemorative 30th anniversary.
    The wine "overwhelms all the senses with its magnificent balance and towering intensity...Violets, smoke, black cherries, menthol, incense, crème de cassis and dark spices are some of the many signatures that take shape in the glass..." Antonio Galloni
