THE REVIEW

Napa's finest deserves to be enjoyed with great food near the warmth of a roaring fireplace. I was fortunate to experience both this weekend with a glass of the 2005 Meyer Vineyard Cabernet, some delicious warm baked brie as a starter, and a slow roasted rosemary rubbed beef tenderloin as the main course. Delicious!
This special Cabernet was recently added to Wine Spectator's top 50 Cabernets of the 2005 vintage, a stellar vintage. While most of the great Cabs from 2005 are long gone, fortunate for us Meyer Vineyard late releases their wines. Another little known fact is that the parent winery, Hestan Vineyards, uses the same fruit and wine making techniques in their Cabernet that go into the Meyer, however, that wine sells for $145.00 per bottle. While its worth every penny, I'd rather enjoy the Meyer for a third of the price and all of the quality.
Smooth and rich with silky smooth tannins at the start, Meyer's Cabernet has spicy blackberry, black cherry and wild berry fruit at its core picking up subtle hints of anise, dark chocolate and mocha. The wine teases you on the finish with a long, intense, persistent finish, ending with a dash of herb and sage. The amazing thing about this wine is that it tastes every bit as wonderful as it smells.
Enjoy now and over the next decade. This fantastic Cabernet is a must have for your collection!Read More »
