A Merchant's Pick

On Valentine's Day my girlfriend and I went to our favorite bistro just outside the city.
Amidst the tiny dining room lit only by dim candle light, we sat in our favorite seat, right next to a wood-burning fireplace. For her, a starter of rabbit ragu in a light cream sauce atop butternut squash ravioli. For me, wild mushroom tortelloni in a cream and porcini mushroom reduction. For us both, the 95 point 2008 Pahlmeyer Chardonnay - it was phenomenal!
The creaminess of the dishes and richness of the wine were all kept in balance with the cleansing acidity that followed every sip. Food and wine really do taste better when paired well together.
Situated just a few miles from the Pacific Ocean, this gorgeous winter white is from Pahlmeyer's Sonoma Wayfarer Farm. Tucked between two ridge lines in an idyllic setting for Burgundy varietals, the 2008 Chardonnay is planted just above the fog line, a space where the vines benefit from intense solar radiance and cool coastal air.
Robert Parker writes, "The 2008 Chardonnay...is another superb effort from a winery that has a Midas touch with Chardonnay." For us on Valentine's day, the intense aromas of hazelnut, brioche and white peaches, coupled with crisp, refreshing hints of acidity and earth were the icing on the cake of a great night out. This is a wine we know you too will fall in love with now and enjoy over the next 5 years. Enjoy!Read More »
