THE REVIEW

I typically grab a bottle of Ateo whenever I am in the mood for homemade pasta or pizza - which is often!
    This Super Tuscan displays the ripe, rich fruit of a California Cabernet as well as the subtle and earthy nuances of Tuscan terroir.
    If it weren't for inclement weather in 1989, we wouldn't have the pleasure of Ateo.
    What happened in 1989? Winemakers, unable to use their Sangiovese grapes, were forced to be creative with heartier varietals that withstood the weather.
    Ateo, a beautiful proprietary blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot fell outside the blending laws of the region and became known as a "Super Tuscan." Twenty years later, the wine is an estate classic!
    What is truly special about this Italian blend - besides its price - is how well it complements food. It doesn't overwhelm with overly extracted fruit or numb your palate with excess alcohol. Distinct aromas of mushroom and earth carry through to the palate where they are supported by subtle red berry flavors, hints of spice, and faint hints of oak. This is a full bodied wine that is silky smooth and finishes with elegant tannins.
