2014 Emilio Moro, Ribera del Duero, Tempranillo

Press and Tasting Notes

Displaying a serious, concentrated profile with aromas of plums, ripe black cherries and fine spices from the barrel. Somehow it has aromas that bring me back to the Riberas of yesteryear, notes of candied orange peel and good quality American oak. THE REVIEW

Absolutely delicious! Every year we conduct our own "in house" tasting of the Wine Spectator Top 100 wines to compare their relative quality and value.
Many of these wines are sold out before the list goes to press, so for the ones that are still available, we get together with a group of friends and family to enjoy good food, wine and conversation and rate the wines ourselves.
On a price to value ratio, our favorite from the most recent Spectator Top 100 list was hands down the 2006 Emilio Moro from Ribera del Duero, Spain. Ribera del Duero is a region in northern Spain known for its dry summers and long hard winters. The stress on the vines produces a superb bouquet of smoke, roasted herbs, scorched earth, and blackberry. Layered on the palate, it has tons of fruit, plenty of spice box notes, and firm structure; brooding cherry and blackberry aromas are complemented by smoked meat, minerals and anise. Sappy dark berry flavors stain the palate and are braced by zesty minerals and dusty tannins. The wine gains weight and sweetness on the finish, which repeats the dark berry note and lingers impressively.
Enjoy now and over the next seven years, this fantastic red can be enjoyed all summer long with any grilled cuisine. Make sure you save a few bottles for the cooler weather and requisite heartier dishes. Enjoy!Read More »
