Put down your Kistler, Kongsgaard, Aubert and Pahlmeyer - for a moment - and only tell your friends about this beautiful Napa Valley Chardonnay after you've purchased some for yourself!
Hyde de Villaine (HdV) is a collaboration between two of the wine world's most coveted producers: the de Villaine Family of DRC (Domaine de la Romanée-Conti) and the Hyde Family from Napa Valley.
From a select parcel on the east hill slope of the highly sought after Hyde Vineyard, these two wine powerhouses - united through marriage - have produced a Chardonnay that is the closest thing to a Grand Cru white Burgundy out of California that we have tasted in a long time.
Puligny-Montrachet or Napa Valley? Fresh citrus and white peach aromas on the nose lead to a silky yet mineral driven palate of bright stone fruit, young pear and apple. A delicate hint of modest wood sits on the finish along with exceptionally balanced and integrated components. With a bit of saline, you'll delight in the sophistication of this Napa Chardonnay, which expresses the touch of the DRC finesse.
Exceptional and drinking beautifully now, this wine is sure to reward those who have the patience to cellar it for another 10 years.
