The inclement weather has finally cleared and I went for an early morning jog outside for the first time this year. Ouch!
While attempting this jog, it was clear that the rich, hearty meals of winter were behind me and it was time to embrace lighter, leaner food choices.
That night, committed to my change of season resolution, I made pistachio crusted salmon with sauteed broccoli in garlic and olive oil. It was delicious, light, and particularly enjoyable when accompanied by the 2008 Merry Edwards Russian River Pinot Noir.
When it comes to California Pinot Noir, there are few producers who are more consistent and masterful than Merry Edwards. Known for her rich, delicious reds and iconic Sauvignon Blanc,
we have been champions of Merry Edwards for years.
Coupled with another stellar growing season, this particular Russian River Pinot is wonderfully captivating with its jewel-like quality. Facets of dark cherry, rich plum and chocolate aromas fill the glass. The complexity unfolds and expands, manifesting accents of licorice, vanilla bean and spicy oak. An enticing, succulent entry on the palate opens with masses of ripe fruit and a hint of earthiness, while prominent yet silky tannins fill the extended finish.
Pinot Noir, in particular this Merry Edwards Pinot, is the perfect segue from the blistering cold winter to the cheerful optimism of Spring. This is a great transition wine, and a great food pairing wine. Enjoy over the next five years.
