“Spanish Splendor | Destined For Top 100....Again!”

Destined For Top 100...Again!

By David Gettenberg
Reserve your Petalos today! This former Wine Spectator Top 100 is one of the best value reds from Spain and is likely to grace the Top 100 list once again with this stunning vintage.
For under $20 per bottle, the 2014 Petalos offers everything a red wine lover could want and more. It is full bodied, but not overpowering. Smooth, it has wonderful texture. Intoxicating aromas range from rose petals to blackberry, minerals to pipe smoke.
You don't typically find this many wonderful attributes in one wine - and certainly not under $20 per bottle.
The Mencia grapes come from 60-90 year old vines. Reaching deep into the soils of Bierzo, these vines are stressed and forced to extract the rich minerality of the terroir. An added bonus? The winery is practicing biodynamic and organic, which is another attribute you don't typically see in such an elaborate and sophisticated wine of this nature.
Petalos is absolutely gorgeous, plush, and elegant. Aromas of roses and pepper with an earthy core are followed by dark red fruit notes. Peppercorn and roasted juices lead to a savory, elegant, satiny but dry, long and supple finish with dark cherries and dried sage.
Enjoy over the next 5-7 years with roasted meats, tenderloin or rack of lamb. Decant if you have the patience to wait as the wonderful aromas will fill the room as soon as you uncork this Spanish beauty.
