Nothing says Spring and Summer like Sancerre. We can't think of a better white to commence these warmer months than Pierre Martin's Les Monts Damnes.
The exclusive three-acre parcel of land known as "Les Monts Damnes" yields the most expressive Sauvignon Blanc grapes on the planet! If the Sancerre region (like Burgundy) had Grand Cru vineyards, Les Monts Damnes would be one.
Les Montes Damnes literally translates to "the cursed mountains" for the steepness of the vineyard slopes. As difficult as they are to harvest, these prized grapes are hand-picked and meticulously tended to, which contribute to the wine's moniker. This is one of the appellation's most prestigious terroirs. It is located in the village of Chavignol, which produces the finest and most distinct Sauvignon Blancs.
The chalky white soils of Chavignol yield and uncanny freshness and bright citrus minerality. Martin's Sancerre displays classic gooseberry and lime zest aromas which mingled with notes of minty herb, stone, almond and white flowers. On the palate the wine is pure with a solid core of fruit, grapefruit, mandarin orange, lime and wildflowers. But, what really sets it apart, is its mineral-infused personality. Excellent focus, racy acidity and a long, mouth watering finish is this wine's trademark.
Drinking a Pierre Martin Sauvignon Blanc is like being hit with a refreshing summer breeze. Enjoy this Sancerre with your favorite seafood dish, especially oysters - either raw or broiled with garlic and breadcrumbs.
