Why is Monteregio's Riserva in the Top 5?
A kaleidoscope of flavors abound in this Tuscany beauty!
Red currant, black cherry, and plush compote provide warming fruit notes on the palate. Dusty tannins give great texture and grip to this silky Sangiovese. There is a faint and welcome hint of spice on the long finish, which seems to last for minutes.
This is a wine you need to buy by the case(s)!
From Monday night meatloaf to fusilli Friday to a comforting glass with a wedge of cheese, the 2015 Conti di San Bonifacio Monteregio "Riserva" is perfect for every occasion.
Who is the winemaker?
Drumroll please... Luca d'Attoma! Making some of the greatest wines in Italy, Luca is best known for Tua Rita, in particular Tua Rita's Redigaffi, which boasts a price tag of $275 per bottle.
How did Count Monfredo join forces with such a winemaking powerhouse? They are friends for starters, but Luca recognized something special about the rustic setting among the olive groves and vines with never ending hilltop views of the countryside. The terroir is literally heaven on earth.
