THE REVIEW

If you've had an opportunity to enjoy some of Napa Valley's finest Cabernets, you are already familiar with the wine-making skills of Steve Matthiasson.
When he's not juggling clients like Araujo Estate, Chappellet, Duckhorn, Spottswoode, and Stags'Leap, Matthiasson somehow has found the time to produce his own wine, "Matthiasson."
We must stress that his 2016 rosé is like Springtime in a bottle! The wine is refreshing and seems to dance on the palate for minutes. Elegant in style with an influence of minerality typically found in the wines of Provence, Matthiasson is redefining the wines of Napa one variety at a time.
You will not find "big, extracted" Matthiasson wines, but rather, graceful and terroir driven wines. His is a refreshing vision coming out of Napa. Lately, it has been harder and harder to procure these rare beauties because Steve has been garnering substantial press. He's earned a James Beard award for both 2014 and 2015 and was The San Francisco Chronicle’s Wine Maker of the Year.
Bright peach, floral acacia blossom, sea shell, and grapefruit flavors give way to refreshing and vibrant acidity. Terrific as a food pairing wine, it will complement the wonderful spring foods that show up on our tables as the weather turns. Enjoy with such springtime favorites as salads, pea soup, fava beans, poached salmon, charcuterie and melon with prosciutto.Read More »
