Gorgeous. Plush. Velvety.
Chateau Maucoil "Privilege" is the most alluring Chateauneuf du Pape we've tasted all year.
Thus, it has earned our most prized Chateauneuf moniker, "Chateauneuf-du-Awesome" and is our Chateauneuf Pick Of The Year!
The Maucoil Estate dates back to the Roman empire when vineyards on the site were planted for Caesar. The Chateau itself was established in 1624 and is located on an idyllic, organically farmed plateau in Chateauneuf-du-Pape.
A full-throttle nose of black olives and tobacco, the wine is concentrated and earthy on the palate with polished tannins and a lasting finish. Notes of forest floor and earth lead way to mushrooms, black currants, pepper, violets, and dried rose. Black cherry, black currants, and blueberries frame the smooth tannins and lasting acidity.
Since 2011, the estate has been using non-interventionist farming practices. The vines grow naturally with little interference. The result is a terroir-driven wine comprised of mostly Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvedre.
This gorgeous CDP is perfect for all year round grilling, a glass with cheese by the fire, or hearty winter dishes.
Wonderfully approachable in its youth, you can easily age it for a decade.
Only 500 cases made - and made only in exceptional vintages!
