Selling out with every vintage, this is the new newly released 2016 Robert Biale "Black Chicken" and our 8th feature of this wine.
It is from a "near-perfect growing season." The Winery
Prohibition may have created the demand, but great wine making created the legendary Zinfandels of Robert Biale Vineyards. Always a Top 100 contender, this is one of the most sought after Zinfandels - right up there with Turley.
What does "Black Chicken" refer to? In the 1930's, the Biales were farmers who grew vegetables and raised chickens. During Prohibition, they became famous for their bootleg Zinfandel. Purchases of produce were often accompanied by clandestine orders for "black chicken," code word for their delicious wine.
Fast forward: The 2016 Zinfandel boasts rich flavors of mixed warm berries, vibrant black cherries, dried fig, pomegranate, wild blackberry, fresh dark flowers, subtle dried herb, toasty brown spices, huckleberry, round tannins and a touch of pepper, all of which engulf the palate.
A comforting sipper on its own, this fantastic classic will pair with any of your barbecue favorites this grilling season.
