2017 Caro may be the most compelling value coming out of Argentina (and the wine world). It is a Bordeaux blend of unparalleled expression.
Caro is the result of a collaboration between First Growth Bordeaux family (Rothschild of Chateau Lafite) and Argentina's Malbec master, Nicolas Catena.
Together, they have made an amazing red wine! It is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec, a true lovechild between the best elements of France and Argentina.
"This is one of the most direct and clear Caros in a long time with blue-fruit, violet and sandalwood aromas and flavors. Crushed-stone, too. Full-bodied, yet tight and contracted with a level of shyness to its strength. The length derives from the excellence of the cabernet. One for the cellar... Try after 2023, but exciting to drink all the same." James Suckling
What We Love About This Wine
Caro is a masterpiece. Deep dark berries, forest floor, crushed earth, and tree bark resonate throughout the wine. On the palate, the wine is soft, juicy and smooth with fine-grained tannins. Amazing notes of cassis, walnut, cedar, mushroom and rose petal on a finish that lasts for minutes.
By the way, if this wine were from the left bank of Bordeaux, it would be 3x the price. Same for Napa!
