This season it was easy. The 2017 Francois Crochet Sancerre Rosé was on our short list favorites...that is, until we tasted it again mid-season. On that second tasting, it jumped to the top as the most complex of the vintage!
A short maceration on the skins allows for a beautiful pale pink color. With expressive fruit, there are white watermelon rind notes and a dry mineral-driven frame that lead to delicate notes of fresh red berries and green garden herbs. On the palate, the wine is mineral and fresh with a long-lasting finish.
On the outskirts of Sancerre lies the tiny commune of Bué, where you will find François Crochet and most of his vines.
A victim of his own success, François cannot keep up with demand, making only limited, hand-crafted quantities. His wines are some of the most precise and refined Sancerres around; they are intensely flavored with crisp, refreshing acidity and great length.
A perfect pairing for spicy cuisine, fresh cheeses and summer salads, we are confident you will add this Sancerre Rosé to your list of favorites too!
