Today's feature has a history like no other wine today.   

Black Chicken was originally conceived during Prohibition. People craved great wine and would drive hundreds of miles to source a specific jug handle, code-named "Black Chicken." 

That was nearly 80 years ago, and the same vineyard is making the same great Zin under its original name. 

When a family creates the same product for decades, they have plenty of time to perfect their craft.

Zinfully delicious, Biale Black Chicken is right there in quality with Turley, Martinelli, and Outpost.  Dark plums, crush dark berries, cocoa beans, and dried orange frame this juicky red. Medium bodied, it offers racy with sleek tannins and vivid acidity. Flavorful and silky this is one of the best Black Chickens to date. 

It was only a few years ago that this gorgeous Black Chicken could be purchased for sub- $30.  There is a reason the wine is now $50 - its really good!

Black Chicken has come a long way from its clandestine beginning. What was once a hushed secret is now celebrated as one of the finest Cali Zins.  It is well worth every penny and a treat for those of us who enjoy great Zinfandels, great Cabs, or great reds in general.  

It is perfect for winter cuisine - and be sure to save some for your next barbecue.  

PS: Drink over the next 10 years.  We've tasted several Black Chickens over the years - many with 8 to 10 years of age; they have been some of the finest Cali wines we've enjoyed among any variety.
