Brick House, Chardonnay

Portlandian-Montrachet
LIMITED QUANTITIES
Though our subject line may be a clever play on words, this Puligny-Montrachet doppelganger is no joke.
With a mere three acres of Chardonnay vineyards, Brick House is best known for their prized Pinot Noir, however, their Chardonnay may be the best kept secret of the winery. Local consumption doesn't let much leave the state and a scant amount makes its way to our hands.
Brick House has some of the oldest Dijon clones in the Willamette Valley. Made in a Burgundian style, the wine is aged in seasoned (not new) French oak, it is whole cluster fermented, and it has a cool micro-climate. These techniques allow the minerality and personality of the wine to shine through making it a dead-ringer for the world's most famous Chardonnays.
With a phenomenal 2012 Oregon vintage, and as Burgundy prices continue to soar, we are happy to discover such a compelling wine at an even more attractive price point.
Fresh apple, lime rind, honeysuckle, popcorn - sans butter - and grapefruit define the wonderful aromas. Creamy on the palate, the wine has vibrant acidity not typically found domestically. Roasted hazelnut, pear, lemon, flint and a touch of saline show off the Puligny-like mouthwatering flavors.
The icing on the cake? Owner and winemaker Doug Tunnell is a proponent of organic and biodynamic farming, which gets true site expression into this beautiful wine. If you like Burgundy, you will love Brick House.
