Patric Piuze is one of Burgundy's premier Chablis producers. He is a "thrilling producer of hand-crafted Chablis...I highly recommend trying a few examples of the Piuze wines
if your taste runs to pure and completely unadorned classically styled Chablis." Jancis Robinson
Years ago we fell in love with Piuze's Petit Chablis and we procure whatever we can when it is available. This white Burgundy is a can't miss value and we cannot think of a better, crisp Petit Chablis for under $20.
For this bottling, Piuze sources crisp Chardonnay grapes from a plateau just above the 1er Cru Vaillon Vineyards of Burgundy.
There, the higher elevation and mixed limestone white soil is similar to that of Champagne and Sancerre. This terroir creates a brighter and crisper version of the Chardonnay grape than anywhere in France.
Piuze's signature Petit Chablis has vibrant fruit showing white peach, and citrus notes - notably lemon zest. Wonderfully balanced acidity is followed by classic green apple accents that fill the glass. No oak is used allowing the mineral driven fruit of the chalky, limestone soils to reveal the zesty qualities of the Chardonnay grape.
A perfect pairing with bright spring and summer salads, scallop risotto, and soft cheese, notably goat. Enjoy!
