Oregon's Best Kept Secret!
For a few years, Bertrand de Villaine of Domaine de la Romanee-Conti (aka, DRC) has been quietly producing a domestic Pinot Noir, Kara "Composition."
Made exclusively for Michelin Starrestaurants, we just pulled the cork on the 2018 Pinot.
Aptly called "Composition," the wine is an amalgamation of the terroir, which comes through in the wine.
Fig and date on entry, you get hit with terrific dusty and textured tannins. Not so much red cherry or strawberry, rather, darker cherry, raspberry, and blackberry lead to a fuller-bodied style. An earthy, woodsy, even meaty finish is followed by pink pepper and dried spice, which balances the fruit. The finish is endless and the acidity refreshes the palate. A few minutes in the glass and the wine evolves to a super-velvety, silky Pinot.
The 2018 Composition is a food wine (think salmon, lean meats, and roasted chicken).
