#8 Without The Wait!
Yesterday, Wine Spectatorrevealed this year's #8 wine, the 2016 Le Vieux Donjon, Chateauneuf-du-Pape.
A great wine from a great Rhone vintage, we have a tiny amount arriving in December.
With 7 years of bottle age, the exact same wine from 2011 may be a better choice if you want to enjoy this phenomenal estate now and don't want to wait for years of cellaring until it is ready.
The vintages are quite similar, actually. They are both textbook Chateauneufs. They have rich fruit, are fresh, and are terroir driven. They are classic CDPs with robust black currant, plum, spice, leather, garrigue, and Provencal herbs. Instead of firm, muscular tannins (which you'll get in the 2016 vintage), you will enjoy balanced and silky tannins (in the 2011) that seamlessly integrate with the acidity and fruit.
This wine is a pleasure to consume today!
Enjoy the 2011 Le Vieux Donjon now and over the next 15 years.
$56.95 per bottle / $683.40 per case
