If we had a Top 10, this would be #6.
Next week we will be releasing our Top 5 Wines of 2019. In the process of swishing and swirling, we tasted and re-tasted the 2011 Vilmart Coeur de Cuveé.
Sooooooo close and barely missing the cut, this tete de cuveé - flagship bottling - will tantalize your tastebuds with its "masterful bubbles." Alberto Lupeti
On the nose: an elegant melange of warm spice, pastry dough, orange rind, white flower blossom, and brilliant, zesty verve. On the palate: the Chardonnay base kicks in with chalky minerality, lemon zest, nutty almond, creamy texture, a hint of vanilla, and featherlike elegance.
“Vilmart is not only one of the greatest grower-estates in Champagne, but one of the finest Champagne producers of any type in the region.” Peter Liem
At 80% Chardonnay (and 20% Pinot Noir), you should pair these brilliant 1er Cru bubbles alongside the simplest of cuisine or the most complex of culinary creations.
And of course, with any celebration!

"Masterful bubbles that does nothing but pave the way to a full, enveloping, dynamic, and very elegant taste, sometimes recalling the best white Burgundy, but then solidly champagne in the protagonism of his tasty minerality. An acidic cleaning push in its citrus and saline closure that seems to never want to end. Remarkable... a perfect squaring of the circle that is typical of the best producers ever. Which Vilmart, however, is."

"The 2011 Brut Coeur de Cuvée has put on a bit of weight since I tasted it last, and that is not a bad thing at all for a year in which the wines are a bit light. Tangerine oil, marzipan, pastry, lemon confit and a touch of sweet oak give the 2011 tons of complexity. Beautifully perfumed and nuanced, the 2011 is once again positively stellar."
