Scopetone, Brunello di Montalcino
Perched on a Montalcino hilltop 500 meters above sea level, you'll find Scopetone's vineyards, home to the first plantings of famed Biondi Santi.
We first featured this wine twelve years ago; in that 2000 vintage, we were captivated by the distinct and compelling aromas of a distant wood-burning fireplace. Added notes of lush fruit, dried cherry, spice and a hint of tobacco leaf and you can understand why we are still thinking about our first encounter.
Like being reunited with an old friend and picking up right where we left off, the current 2012 Scopetone Brunello boasts the same wonderful aromas and flavors that won us over more than a decade ago. Add refreshing notes of eucalyptus, menthol and cedar atop the classic Sangiovese dried cherry and wild strawberry notes and you'll appreciate why "this may well be the most refined Brunello of the vintage." Antonio Galloni
Neighboring Pertimali (Livio Sassetti), Scopetone is located in the famed Scarnacuoia cru, adjacent to the Montosoli cru. With less than 200 cases imported, the only reason we have not featured this long-lost friend since the 2000 vintage is its lack of availability in the market!
Enjoy it now and over the next ten years....

Intoxicating aromas of a distant wood-burning fire. Dried raspberry on the nose. Worn leather and roasted coffee on the finish. Refreshing notes of eucalyptus, menthol and cedar integrate beautifully with classic Sangiovese dried cherry and wild strawberry notes. Twelve years ago was the last time we featured Scopetone Brunello - it has taken that long to secure enough to feature nationally. 100% Sangiovese Grosso. Only 200 cases imported.

"Perfumed nose offers raspberry, wild strawberry, sour red cherry, minerals, violet and rose petal aromas complicated by hints of blood orange. Then pure, bright and precise in the mouth, with noteworthy delicacy to the intense flavors of red berries, flint and botanical herbs. The very long, lightly saline finish displays noble tannins and a whiplash of juicy acidity neatly extending the flavors on the back end. This may well be the most refined Brunello of the vintage."
