Leviathan, Cabernet Blend
Screaming Eagle, at $2,000 per bottle, may be one of the most elusive and collectible domestic California Cabernets. Former Screaming Eagle winemaker, Andy Erickson, knows this and has created a "Baby Eagle," his own personal project for immediate enjoyment, called Leviathan.
* This is a 48 hours special after which the price will increase to $44.95 per bottle. *
For years, we have been a fan of the plush fruit of Leviathan allowing for approachability in its youth without sacrificing balanced structure or depth. Aromatics of cigar box, brambly fruit and cacao jump from the glass. The palate gives way to black cherries and anise, with savory tannins and a full, lingering finish.
"Andy Erickson's Leviathan is gorgeous once again in 2013 ... Readers looking for a supple, exuberant Cabernet Sauvignon-based wine that requires little cellaring should check out the 2013 Leviathan." Antonio Galloni
Sourced from some of the most coveted vineyards in California, Leviathan showcases the best characteristics of an amazing 2013 vintage. This Baby Eagle is more than just a personal project; with so little available, it is quickly becoming a cult Cabernet.
92 / 100
"Andy Erickson's Leviathan is gorgeous once again in 2013. Plump, juicy and forward, the 2013 packs a serious punch. Still it is impossible not to notice that this year Leviathan is made in a more aromatic, lifted style than in the past, when the wine has been much more bombastic. Readers looking for a supple, exuberant Cabernet Sauvignon-based wine that requires little cellaring should check out the 2013 Leviathan."
