A Hedonistic Zinfandel
When people speak of highly sought after Zinfandels, you often hear names like Turley, Porter-Bass, and of course, Martinelli.
Martinelli is best known for making hedonistic Zinfandels. The vines for these wines are big and gnarly - and the wine is the same.
The 2016 "Vigneto di Evo" is a blend of the winery's single vineyards. It boasts aromas of plums, roasted herbs and dried figs. This deep, dense, full-bodied effort is an exotic red with a high-pitched bouquet of earth, clove, cocoa, and blackberry.
If You Have the Willpower
If you have the willpower to wait, let this wine breath in the glass for 30 minutes as this nuanced red becomes richer and more exotic with every patient minute.
Grab your grill and fire up the flame as this is the perfect barbecue wine!
Be sure to get enough for the next few years as we are not sure when we will see this limited offering again.
THE MERCHANT'S MARK
93+ / 100
The 2016 Martinelli Zinfandel "Vigneto di Evo" is the perfect BBQ wine. A rich nose of red raspberry, cinnamon, and sweet clove. The palate offers succulent red plum and black cherry. The finish, which is oh-so-long, gives way to exotic spices. We don't see much of this wine, so this is a real treat.

"This robust, generous and ripe red offers a mix of candied plum, blackberry and black olive, with a lavender tone to brighten the concentrated fruit. A sweet oak note complements the richness of the palate."
