2017 "Clio" by Bodegas El Nido

Clio Today, Gone Tomorrow

Brace yourself!

This one's gonna go quickly...

Sorry, so little of the newly released Clio is available. Expected to go as quickly as it comes in, more and more of Clio's annual production is remaining overseas with each release.

Clio, by Bodegas El Nido, is one of those wines that caught on by wildfire several years ago with its 97 point Wine Advocate rating from Robert Parker. Before that, only a small group of aficionados hoarded it for themselves - including us.

What makes Clio so special and time-tested?  What gives it and its Big Brother, El Nido, multiple and consistent mid-to-high 90 point accolades?

The warm, consistent micro-climate of Jumilla, Spain requires the old vine Monastrell (also known as Mourvedre) and Cabernet vines to reach deep into the soil. It is a wine that is uniquely smooth yet structured.

"Silky" is the word we hear most often when people ask for it.

Rich layers of dark fruit offer roasted coffee and earth notes. It is a full-bodied wine - but not overpowering - with great concentration and an extremely long finish.

Enjoy now and save a few for up to 5 years - if you have the willpower.

$46.95 per bottle / $563.40 per case

You can never have too much Clio. Always a crowd pleaser, Clio by Bodegas El Nido is silky smooth and gets huge press year after year. The 2017 Clio is a blend of 70% old vine Monastrell and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon. A glass-coating opaque purple, Clio has an expressive nose of pain grille, underbrush, brier, mineral, blueberry, and blackberry fruit leading to a plush, opulent wine with great density, savory flavors, and a lengthy finish.
