"I have had the Julienas many times and it always makes me smile. It is infectiously joyous: bright, juicy, pure, earthy, and spicy." Eric Asimov
Julienas is one of ten Beaujolais "crus." Gamay is the grape of the region... and this is one gorgeous Gamay!
This is not a Beaujolais Nouveau (a simple wine released right before Thanksgiving.)
This Julienas, like most Beaujolais crus, is ageworthy. You can easily enjoy it for five years, and the juicy fruit makes it a joy to enjoy now.
A core of blackberry, blueberry, currant, crushed rock, plum skin, dried rose, and smooth tannin have beautiful texture and grip. This is an outstanding alternative for those who enjoy Pinot Noir and who appreciate the minerality of the region but yearn for a bit more dark fruit and heft.
Let it breathe for 15-20 minutes and watch it evolve in the glass with eye-opening enjoyment!
Made from only the best parcels and barrels, the 2017 Clos du Fief Julienas Tradition Beaujolais boasts invigorating cassis and red raspberry, bitter-sweet herbs, and vibrant minerals. Fresh cherry and dark berry aromas with a suggestion of succulent flowers. Offering bitter cherry and boysenberry flavors. With rustic tannins on the palate, this hearty Beaujolais is a fantastic Cru.
