Jean-Paul Thevenet, "Morgon" Beaujolais, Vieilles Vignes

Burgundy's Finest Cru Beaujolais!
"Superb." The Wine Advocate
"The rise in quality, authenticity and standing of Beaujolais these days begs the question: Who is driving the revival?" Decanter
The answer?
Jean-Paul Thevenet, "a beacon for characterful, complex Beaujolais." Decanter
Within Beaujolais, there are ten "crus." Jean-Paul Thevenet's "Morgon" is among the finest cru being made today.
We featured Thevenet's 2016 last year. With a string of outstanding Beaujolais vintages, we simply could not feature this stunning 2017.
We cannot get enough of this gorgeous Gamay!
While most red Burgundies are made from Pinot Noir, red Beaujolais are made from Gamay. A well-made Beaujolais resembles Pinot Noir, but is much richer and more muscular. Unlike Beaujolais Nouveau, which tends to be "playful" and simple, cru Beaujolais - like this "Morgon" - are sophisticated, juicy and downright delicious!
The 2017 Jean-Paul Thevenet Morgon Vieilles Vignes (old vines) boasts an invigorating amalgam of cassis, pomegranate, raspberry, bitter-sweet herbs, and vibrant mineral shadings. The vines are a minimum of 80 years old offering an expressive red like no other.
Jean-Paul Thevenet is part of a small group of vignerons - now famously known as The Gang Of Four - who are invoking a return to more traditional winemaking practices. These terroir-driven wines are farmed organically and biodynamically imparting classic Burgundian terroir.
Enjoy this hearty Beaujolais over the next 5 years and be sure to use it this holiday season from Thanksgiving through New Year's.
But, don't stop there!
Enjoy this Gamay all year round with veal, grilled meats, duck, chicken and hearty salads.
Remember, this is not just any Beaujolais, it is the finest cru Beaujolais!

Thevernet's 2017 Morgon is breathtaking and brilliant! These old vines showcase seamless aromas of spice, mineral, blackberry, raspberry, and red cherry. Silky tannins and wonderful grip frame the palate of cassis, pomegranate, raspberry, bitter-sweet herbs, and vibrant minerality. The vines are a minimum of 80 years old offering an expressive red like no other.

"The 2017 Morgon Vieilles Vignes is superb, wafting from the glass with notes of red cherries, cassis, candied peel and raw cocoa. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, supple and velvety, with juicy acids, a deep core of fruit and refined tannins. Thévenet routinely produces one of the most elegant, classy expressions of Morgon, and the 2017 vintage is no exception. In ideal conditions, this will develop in bottle for a decade or more."
