What does "Black Chicken" refer to?
In the 1930's, the Biales were farmers who grew vegetables and raised chickens. During Prohibition, they became famous for their bootleg Zinfandel. Purchases of produce were often accompanied by clandestine orders for "black chicken," code word for their delicious wine.
