Screaming Eagle, We've Got One Better! • 2021 • The Legendary Vintage!

If you are a Cabernet Sauvignon fan, 2021 is off-the-charts.  It is a “dream vintage” you will want to own!

Extremely limited.

2021 Napa Valley finally has its time to shine.  Now past the fires and harsh weather of the past few years, Napa Valley 2021 is a “truly exceptional vintage.”  Jeb Dunnuck

You may recall there was no 2020 Goldschmidt Game Ranch.

All this amounts to the greatest demand we have seen for Goldschmidt's Game Ranch Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon, one of the hidden treasures in the Oakville District of Napa Valley.

By now, you know the Goldschmidt story:

Screaming Eagle is one of the most sought-after Cabernet Sauvignons from California. At $2,000 per bottle - if you can find any - it is a special occasion wine without question.

But, what if you could get the same terroir as the most collectible California Cabernet for a fraction of the price? What if we told you that the Goldschmidt Game Ranch Vineyard borders the Screaming Eagle property?

Specifically, Goldschmidt's prestigious Game Ranch Vineyard is 100 yards from Screaming Eagle, literally a sand wedge away.

Exhilarating flavors of black cherry, intense anise, chocolate, currant, sage, and mocha flavors explode on your palate. Smooth but firm tannins on the finish display the wine's quality. The fruit is balanced and lush with remarkable depth and nuance. Absolutely delicious!

Goldschmidt's Game Ranch is an exclusive 3-acre vineyard tucked in the Oakville District. This tiny parcel produces low yields with dense fruit.

Only 300 cases of this single-vineyard red are made each year. Goldschmidt fans will want to stock up on this “dream vintage.”

Better than Screaming Eagle?

Hands down one of the best Italian wines I've ever had! An Antinori all-star!

A Culinary Chameleon

Antinori is know for its iconic and coveted Super Tuscans:  Tignanello, Guado al Tasso, and Solaia.

Antinori was one of the pioneers in  Bolgheri where Super Tuscans produce exotic red blends like no other region in Italy.

Antinori's Il Bruciato (the 2nd wine of flagship Guado al Tasso), is one of the best wines I have ever enjoyed for under $50.  It consistently ranks among the best value Italian reds with Monica Lerner having called it "absolutely one of the best value wines you will find in Italy."

Dark berries are first on the nose, followed by savory undertones and a stony saltiness. Berries carry over to the palate, while undertones shift sweeter and more citrusy, before a spicy nuttiness emerges on the finish. Balanced tannins and acidity provide warmth."  Wine Enthusiast

This Is Going To Make You Hungry!

Are you a fan of Neapolitan pizza?

Do you occasionally crave a tenderloin seared to perfection?

Do you enjoy wild mushroom risoto?

Look no further than Antinori's Il Bruciato to complement these and any similar dishes.  It is a stunning blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and a dash of Syrah all balanced to perfection.

You can dress it up to complement your favorite butcher's cut or enjoy it simply with a glass and a slice!

My favorite:  bruschetta on rosemary ciabatta toasted to perfection!

Cheers.

Magnificent Must Have Meursault!

Domaine Remi Jobard produces seven Meursault cuvees, three of which are 1er Cru.

Whatever doesn't go into those cuvees is declassified into this stunning Bourgogne Blanc.  This means you are getting flagship Meursault fruit ($150 - $200 per bottle) at a fraction of the price.

And, most of the Chardonnay in this Bourgogne Blanc borders the prized 1er Cru "Charmes" vineyard, literally a stone's throw away.

Jobard's Bourgogne Blanc Vieille Vignes (old vines) is one of Burgundy's hidden treasures.  If you were to blind-taste this Chardonnay, you would be captivated by its classic Meursault profile of pear, lemon zest, green apple, white peach, orange oil, and white flower.  A hint of roasted nut and chalk provide a bit of weight and texture.  The wine is absolutely delicious!

What We Love About Jobard's Bourgogne Blanc

It is rare to find a Vieille Vignes (old vine) Bourgogne Blanc.  Jobard's Bourgogne Blanc is sourced from 40+ years old Meursault (Chardonnay in the village of Meursault).

This is an important distinction from many other Bourgogne Blancs produced.  Most Bourgogne Blancs use juvenile and newly planted vines planted in a prestigious village (ie, Meursault, Puligny Montrachet, Chassagne Montrachet).   To avoid the degradation of a flagship, prestigious wine (Puligny, Chassagne, etc), the juvenile grapes are declassified to Bourgogne Blanc.  Producers do this to generate revenue while these vines establish themselves.

Locals tend to snatch up all that is available of Remi Jobard's Bourgogne Blanc, with very little making its way out of France.  And by the way, this beautiful Chardonnay also happens to be certified organic.

Given its terroir, quality and structure, you can enjoy this Meursault now and over the next decade.

Enjoy!

Bordeaux Blanc Bliss!

If Bordeaux Blanc isn't part of your summer enjoyment, it should be. A phenomenal alternative to Sancerre, Chateau Graville-Lacoste can be your go-to aperitif or main course feature.

White Bordeaux is famous for blending Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon grapes. Together, they make an exceptionally refreshing wine experience that only comes from the mineral-rich soil of Bordeaux.

Speaking of soil, Chateau Graville-Lacoste is across the road from First Growth Chateau Climens in Graves; it has the same soil composition of limestone clay and gravel and is the finest white wine terroir in Bordeaux.

Pure and lively, Chateau Graville-Lacoste has aromas of lemon zest, peach, melon, wet stone, fresh-cut grass and citrus. A classic Sauvignon Blanc footprint supports the distinct creamy texture of the Semillon. In the mouth, the wine is dry, zesty, and lively; it is well-balanced with a clean, fresh profile. The citrus finish has great length with dazzling acidity.

After chilling, let the bottle warm just a bit to allow the complexity to be fully expressed. Chateau Graville-Lacoste is the perfect companion for seafood of any kind or simply on its own.

Enjoy this delicious white all year long - and in particular on the hot days of summer.

Enjoy!

Our #3 Wine Of 2022 • Now that’s Cabernet Sauvignon!

We love this wine's “pre-Parker style” (an industry term used to describe producers' propensity to craft extracted, robust wines in the hopes of receiving huge press).

I recently couldn't get enough of the 2018 Domaine Magdalena Estate Red, enjoyed over two days.  Each day revealed a new layer.  The wine seemed to glide across the palate with its Old World charm. It impressed us with nuance and not power.

Silky.  Balanced.  Rustic.  Bordeaux-like charm.  It is a superstar!

Add a blockbuster 2018 vintage - one of the best in the Pacific Northwest - and this 4-acre estate is not going to remain much of a secret for very long.

No new oak is used; rather, the purity of fruit and terroir drives the wine’s profile.  Aromas of dried herbs, tobacco leaf, cassis, and licorice waft from the glass. On the palate the wine is soft, yet supple, with hints of tart bramble fruits, plum, and black tea, framed by a bright acidity that brings freshness, all leading into a long, lingering, slightly herbaceous finish. Ideal to pair with beef, game, lamb, and pork on the bone, or even hearty poultry like squab. Extremely approachable now, Magdalena could easily cellar for 10 years, possibly longer.

If you’ve never heard of Domaine Magdalena you are not alone, as the production from this tiny estate, nestled on the slopes of Red Mountain, is counted in bottles, not cases.   Even New York City, the world’s largest wine market, gets barely enough to satisfy the demand of Sommelier’s “in the know.”   We managed to secure the lion’s share of the distributor’s allocation!

An added bonus:  Magdalena is farmed organically and biodynamically and certified in both.

Nature takes over for most of the year with the vineyard essentially running wild during the growing season.   Each bottle is individually numbered, a level of detail that also reveals itself in the bottle.

Over the past few years, Washington has become home to some of the best Cabernet Sauvignon being produced today.  Magdalena is Cabernet Sauvignon the way it should be - it is worth every penny.

Enjoy!

If you like Krug, you'll love....

Within the Champagne shortage, we have a Premier Cru Champagne to single out.  We can think of no better Champagne to feature - whiles supplies last - ahead of the holiday season than Vilmart's Grand Cellier Premier Cru, often called a "Baby Krug" by wine Champagne lovers.

With a history of making stunning Champagnes going back to 1890, Vilmart & Cie is known for its brioche, stone-fruit, and mineral-laced acidity - all very Krug-esque.

"A mouthwatering Champagne that shows seamless integration of the plush and creamy mousse, rapier-like acidity and expressive range of peach, chopped nut, ripe green apple, star anise and honeysuckle aromas and flavors that persist on the long finish. Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Disgorged January 2022. Drink now through 2027." Wine Spectator

What We Love About This Wine

Vilmart & Cie is located in the Grand Montagne, where most of the holdings are Premier Cru. The now 5th generation winemaker Laurent Champs makes all of his wines organically.  The wine-making style produces crisp acidic structure coupled with the richness from the fermentation and aging process.

We are not the only ones who love this wine.  Peter Liem, considered THE authority on Champagne is also a huge fan:  "Vilmart & Cie. is not only one of the greatest grower-estates in Champagne, but one of the finest Champagne producers of any type in the region.”

Be sure to secure yours today!  There will be none left for the holiday season.

Extremely limited.  While supplies last.

Enjoy!

Unbelievable Cabernet Value!

Sommeliers are buying Washington State Cabernet for their wine lists for a reason!

Columbia Valley, Washington is situated between latitudes 46N and 47N, the same as the famed French wine region of Bordeaux.

Wines from this region are bold, robust, and have plenty of Bordeaux character.  As a bonus, they also have a lot of New World, grippy fruit structure as well.

By enjoying wines from the Columbia Valley you are essentially getting the best of both Old and New World.

"Displaying a balanced blend of sweet herbs and black currant.  It's soft and pliant, with depths of tart red and black fruits guided by brisk acidity. The wine possesses a lovely balance, finishing lightly structured and fresh, with a lingering tinge of bitter cocoa. Vinous

The owner, Michael Januik, is one of Washington's most acclaimed winemakers. He was named one of the world's ten "Masters of Merlot" and has had a dozen wines appear on Wine Spectator's prestigious "Top 100" list.

Regardless of the accolades received, he would rather you taste his wine and decide for yourself what you think of his winemaking.

Simply put—

We tasted these wines, we love them, and you will too!

There's everything you could possibly demand from a red wine within this bottle that is full of character. There's fruit, chewy tannins, and balanced acidity.  It is the complete package.

If Columbia Valley is a stranger to you, Januik Cabernet Sauvignon should not be.

If you love Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, then you already know Januik’s value.

Purchase by the case(s)!

Enjoy!

Clio Today, Gone Tomorrow!

Dribs and drabs. That's how we get Clio - in tiny allocations.  Here today and gone tomorrow, there is never enough Clio to satisfy our growing list of Clio fans.

We just received a small allocation of the 2021 Clio.  So little Clio is available; with more and more of Clio's annual production remaining overseas, our waiting list continues to grow.

Clio, by Bodegas El Nido, caught on by wildfire several years ago with its 97 point Wine Advocate rating from Robert Parker.   Before that, only a small group of aficionados hoarded it for themselves - including us.

What makes Clio so special and time-tested?

"Silky" is the word we hear most often when customers refer to this delicious Mourvedre and Cabernet Sauvignon blend.

The wine's hallmark notes leap out of the glass: earthy, mushroom, leather, blueberry, and blackcurrant jam. The flavor is equally rich and smooth, with notes of blue and black currants, some herbs, and mild pepper. The wine has remarkable length and balance.  Chris Ringland, one of the most renowned Australian enologists, teamed up with the legendary Gil Family of Spain to make this one of a kind wine.

Clio is full-bodied yet not overpowering with silky tannins, concentration and an extremely long finish.  This Spanish red is uniquely smooth, while at the same time structured; if it were from Napa, it would be 2x the price.

Limited quantities - be sure to order today!

Enjoy!

Codebeautify.org Text to HTML Converter

Rivaling The Legendary 2016 And 1997 Vintages, You Want 2019 Brunello In Your Cellar! Over the coming weeks, we will be hand-selecting and featuring the finest Brunellos from the blockbuster 2019 vintage. What do you drink in the best vintages? The best producers! The 2019 Valdicava Brunello di Montalcino is where you want to start if you didn't grab any of our featured 2019 Casanova di Neri Brunello. We've said it before, and we will say it again: Whether you are adding to your collection or starting one, if Valdicava isn't in your cellar, it should be! The 2019 Brunello di Montalcino is darkly alluring with a youthfully coy bouquet that requires coaxing as dusty earth and dried flowers slowly take on hints of incense and black cherries. It flows easily across the palate, silky and refined with building tension as brisk acidity and minerals mingle with edgy tannins toward the close. The 2019 finishes dramatically long and structured with a pleasantly bitter tinge. A resonance of salted licorice and cedar lingers on and on. Valdicava has captured the radiance of the vintage." Antonio Galloni, Dramatically long on the finish with a crunchy core, the wines of 2019 are pure, racy, and cool with wonderful "al dente fruit." James Suckling We've had countless calls for the 2019 Valdicava Brunello for good reason. It is a wine worth having, especially in this historic vintage. Valdicava is a must have wine - one you do not want to miss! The wines are deep, nuanced, rustic, and expressive. "2019 [is] “a dream for any farmer: perfect weather, perfect rains, perfect temperatures, incredibly wonderful wines." Pier Filippo Abbruzzese, Valdicava Even More Rare, The "Immortal" Montosoli In only its third release in a magnum and first release in 750ml, Montosoli Brunello is the Grand Cru of Montalcino. Valdicava's 100 point Montosoli Brunello can be ordered here in 750ml and here in 1.5L magnums. It is made in only exceptional vintages. Eric Guido of Vinous called this wine "Possibly immortal" and an "epic wine in the making." The 2019's are being compared to the iconic 2010 and 1997 vintages, which are still talked about today; blue-chips from that historic vintage are still showing beautifully. Quantities are limited.
