Double 100 point Brunello special! • Only tell your friends after you purchase!

April 18, 2024

Giodo Brunello is Montalcino's greatest 100-point secret.  Giodo quietly arrived on the wine scene a little over a decade ago.  Shortly thereafter, Wine Spectator featured Carlo Ferrini, Giodo's owner, as "one of Montalcino's great winemakers," and "one of Montalicino's best kept secrets."

2019 is a historic Brunello vintage, one that is being compared to 2010, 2016, and even 1997.

While 2019 has produced a slew of excellent wines, the 2019 Giodo Brunello will be one of the greats from this vintage!

I would rank the 2019 [Giodo] Brunello di Montalcino as high as or even better than the best vintages made at this boutique estate. In my mind, they are 2010, 2016 and now 2019. This wine comes from a three-hectare plot with 19-year-old vines that are cared for obsessively. This amphitheater-shaped parcel called La Poderina is nestled deep within the forest on a steep slope that overlooks Monte Amiata in the distance... This is a wine of depth and dimension, with vibrant energy, elegant balsamic notes and sweetly ripened fruit. The medium fruit weight is balanced against the wine's acidity and fine tannins. It ends with floral notes of violet and iris."  Wine Advocate's Monica Lerner

The Giodo vineyards are intentionally kept discrete.  To get there, you need to travel up an unpaved forest road outside the medieval hamlet of Sant Angelo.

As the former winemaker of Casanova di Neri (as well as consulting for clients Ricasoli and Telenti), Carlo keeps his vineyard location hidden as not to upstage his high-profile clients.

A must-have vintage and wine, the 2019 Giodo Brunello should not be missed!

With countless 100 point scores over the past few years, keeping the Giodo secret is going to be difficult!

Extremely limited.  First come, first served.

Enjoy!

"Even better than the best vintages made at this boutique estate." Wine Advocate

“A perfect wine, a divine wine.”

International Wine Report • 100 / 100

“Expressive and rich in character, it shows concentration and structure in the notes of red plums, wild strawberries, chopped cedar, mandarin juice, lemon peel, cut ginger and broken celery. Wild thyme and marjoram describe the secondary scene, but it is the character of the fresh cherries, rose petals and grapefruit that delicately but presently brings grace and authenticity to the matrix. Medium-full body, perfectly ripe tannins of commendable beauty and an honest and subtle enveloping finish. It thrills in the sip, you would like to drink it, drink it and drink it again. Elegance and more elegance, in a wine that achieves perfection. A perfect wine, a divine wine…”

“The taste is rich and elegant.”

Luca Gardini • 100 / 100

“Taut and clean on the nose, with fine aromas of red plum, touches of peony, brackish nuances, and hints of black olive, with balsamic and officinal herbs finish. The taste is rich and elegant, with tannins well blended with the freshsavory component. Closure is slightly citrus, a great personality."

“What a wine. ”

James Suckling • 99 / 100

“Aromas of cedar, earth, tree bark, fruit tea, black tea and cherries. Then it turns to fresh and dried flowers. Medium to full body as it grows on the palate with superb fine tannins that run the length of the wine. It’s structured and powerful with great length. The acid, tannin balance is incredible. Very clear and transparent. What a wine."

“As high as or even better than the best vintages made at this boutique estate.”

Wine Advocate • 98+ / 100

"When I tasted this wine with its maker, the celebrated enologist Carlo Ferrini, he told me that he put every last drop of love into the 2019 vintage. He believes it is the best wine he has made thus far at his relatively new Giodo project that started in 2009. Indeed, I would rank the 2019 Brunello di Montalcino as high as or even better than the best vintages made at this boutique estate. In my mind, they are 2010, 2016 and now 2019. This wine comes from a three-hectare plot with 19-year-old vines that are cared for obsessively. This amphitheater-shaped parcel called La Poderina is nestled deep within the forest on a steep slope that overlooks Monte Amiata in the distance. The soils are white in color with lots of rocks. This is a wine of depth and dimension, with vibrant energy, elegant balsamic notes and sweetly ripened fruit. The medium fruit weight is balanced against the wine's acidity and fine tannins. It ends with floral notes of violet and iris.

Giodo is the proverbial boutique estate with six hectares of vines that proprietor Carlo Ferrini and his family can personally care for and manage. This hands on approach is also applied in the small winery packed with all of Carlo's favorite technology, oak barrels and clay vessels. Petite dimensions are the secret of Giodo's success. He has complete control and can react swiftly to issues when they arise. His talents shine bright in the beautiful 2019 vintage, although I'm holding out for a little more vineyard age that will hopefully bring even more complexity to this gorgeous portfolio of just two wines."
